REPORT OF MARRIAGE
Marriages contracted in the following places can be registered or reported at the Philippine Embassy in Nairobi: (1) Kenya; (2) Burundi; (3) Comoros; (4) Democratic Republic of Congo; (5) Republic of Congo; (6) Malawi; (7) Rwanda; (8) Seychelles; (9) Somalia; (10) South Sudan; (11) Tanzania; (12) Uganda.
Procedure and Requirements:
- One (1) duly accomplished Cover Sheet for Report of Marriage.
- Four (4) original duly accomplished Report of Marriage Form, typed or printed legibly in black or blue ink in block letters, bearing the original signature of both husband and wife. Wives should indicate their maiden name as the last name.
- One (1) original Marriage Certificate, duly authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the country where the marriage took place, and three (3) photocopies.
- Four (4) photocopies each of the data page of the passport of husband and wife
- Four (4) passport-sized photos each of the husband and wife using plain background.
- Payment of US$25.00 payable in cash or bank transfer.
- Documents not in English must be accompanied by an English translation.
Additional Requirements:
If the Report of Marriage is filed more than 1 year from the date of marriage, a notarized Joint Affidavit of Delayed Registration of Marriage must be accomplished.
For contracting parties of the marriage who were previously married, the following additional documentary requirements must be submitted:
a. If Filipino applicant had a previous Philippine marriage annulled
- One (1) original and three (3) photocopies of the Philippine Statistics Authority (formerly NSO)-issued Annotated Marriage Certificate (which indicates the details of the annulment) and/or DFA-authenticated Judicial Decree of Annulment with Certificate of Finality.
- One (1) original and three (3) photocopies of the Philippine Statistics Authority (formerly NSO)-issued Birth Certificate of Filipino wife if Filipino wife had a previous Philippine marriage annulled.
- Wife should indicate her maiden name as the last name in the Report of Marriage Form.
b. If Filipino applicant is divorced and divorce was initiated by foreign spouse
- One (1) original and three (3) photocopies of DFA-authenticated Judicial Recognition of Foreign Divorce issued by a competent Philippine Court with Certificate of Finality.
- If the foreigner is divorced, include the divorce decree (1 original and 3 photocopies) with the application.
- One (1) original and three (3) photocopies of the Philippine Statistics Authority (formerly NSO)- issued Birth Certificate of Filipino wife if Filipino wife is divorced.
- Wife should indicate her maiden name as the last name in the Report of Marriage Form.
When a divorce is validly obtained abroad by an alien spouse from his or her Filipino spouse, the Filipino spouse shall have the capacity to remarry under Philippine law. Divorce, however, must be recognized in the Philippines courts. The foreign divorce decree must be judicially enforced or confirmed in the Philippines by filing the proper civil action at the Regional Trial Court in the Philippines (RTC-Phil).
c. If either groom or bride is widowed,
- One (1) original and three (3) photocopies of the Philippine Statistics Authority (formerly NSO)-issued Death Certificate of deceased spouse.
- One (1) original and three (3) photocopies of the Philippine Statistics Authority (formerly NSO)- issued Birth Certificate of Filipino wife if Filipino wife is widowed.
- If foreigner is widowed, include the Death Certificate of deceased spouse (1 original and 3 photocopies) with the application.
- Wife should indicate her maiden name as the last name in the Report of Marriage Form.
Processing:
The Philippine Embassy will convey the Report of Marriage and annexed documents to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) of the Philippines. It takes at least six (6) months to about one (1) year for the ensuing Philippine Certificate of Marriage to be available for ordering from the PSA in the Philippines.
Your personal copy of Report of Marriage will be available for collection from the Philippine Embassy at least 10 working days from the date of receipt, assuming all supporting documents are in order.
Note: The Consular Officer reserves the right to request additional documents from the applicants. Please take note that the consular officer may require additional documents upon assessment of the application, depending on the circumstances of the applicant’s marriage. Factors such as citizenship, previous civil status and others may affect the status of your application. Please submit the Cover Sheet for Report of Marriage to ensure that our consular officer or consular assistant can reach you immediately.
Note: Documents not in English must be accompanied by an English translation.
