PH EMBASSY IN NAIROBI MEETS WITH FILIPINO NATIONALS, GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS IN SOUTH SUDAN

JUBA, 13 April 2022 – The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi successfully conducted a consular outreach mission in Juba, South Sudan on 10-12 April 2022.


The Embassy's team provided passport, notarial, and other consular services to Filipinos in South Sudan. It also met with the Filipino community in Juba to check on their situation amid the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. 

There are over 100 Filipinos in South Sudan, most of them working in United Nations (UN) agencies, non-government and humanitarian organizations, and petroleum companies.


The Embassy team, led by Third Secretary and Vice Consul Louie Dane C. Merced, also paid a courtesy visit to the Asia Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of South Sudan. During the meeting, the South Sudan officials expressed their hope to work more closely with the Philippines in the areas of agriculture, investments, and capacity-building.


South Sudan is the world's youngest independent state, having gained its independence in 2011. Diplomatic relations between the Philippines and South Sudan were established in 2013. END
