NAIROBI, 06 December 2022 – The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi joined other diplomatic missions in raising funds for underprivileged Kenyans at the International Diplomatic Charity Bazaar (IDCB) held on 04 December 2022 at Villa Rosa Kempinski Hotel in Nairobi.

The IDCB, organized by the Spouses of Head of Missions Association in Kenya (SHOM) for the first time since the pandemic, featured handicrafts and food items from countries of the 25 participating diplomatic missions and other Kenyan companies and NGOs.

On sale at the Philippine booth were dried mangoes, pearl accessories, capiz shell crafts, Kamagong wood calendars, souvenirs such as Philippine jeepney miniatures, and traditional abaniko, the best-selling item.

Guest of Honor Ms. Charlene Ruto, daughter of President William Ruto and who attended the event on behalf of her mother Mme. Rachel Ruto, thanked the organizers and the diplomatic community for initiating and supporting projects that help uplift the lives of underprivileged Kenyans.

Entrance and raffle ticket sales, as well as donations from Missions and other sponsors, will benefit SHOM's project of donating water, food, and school supplies to 70 children in the Kabiria neighborhood, as well as skills training for 40 single mothers in Kibera in Nairobi, where residents live in extreme poverty.
