AMB. TANG PRESENTS CREDENTIALS AS PH NON-RESIDENT AMBASSADOR TO TANZANIA

DODOMA, 28 February 2023 – Philippine non-resident Ambassador to the United Republic of Tanzania Marie Charlotte G. Tang presented her credentials to President Samia Suluhu Hassan on 27 February 2023 at a ceremony held at the State House in Dodoma, Tanzania’s capital.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Tang conveyed the felicitations and warm wishes of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to President Hassan and the people of Tanzania.

She expressed her hope to invigorate bilateral ties with Tanzania, particularly in the areas of economic and people-to-people relations.  She also noted the presence of around 300 Filipinos in Tanzania, who contribute positively to the socio-economic development of the country.

Ambassador Tang, who is based in Kenya, said that the Philippines plans to appoint an honorary consul in Dar es Salaam soon. The latter, Tanzania’s former capital, is the largest city and main commercial hub of the country.

President Samia welcomed the move, saying that it would strengthen the two countries’ relations and foster closer collaboration.

President Samia also conveyed Tanzania’s interest in cooperating with the Philippines on fisheries, agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism.

Along with Ambassador Tang, envoys from Zambia, Egypt, the USA, Brazil, the Holy See, and Romania also presented their credentials to President Hassan.

Tanzania is home to Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa.  It is known for its national parks, wildlife reserves, and natural resources, particularly gold and tanzanite. Its economy is primarily based on agriculture, with coffee, cotton, and cashew nuts among its major crops. Tanzania also hosts the headquarters of the East African Community (EAC) in Arusha.

The Philippines and Tanzania formally established diplomatic relations in 1961. END
