PH EMBASSY CELEBRATES INDEPENDENCE DAY WITH FILIPINO COMMUNITIES IN EAST AFRICA
NAIROBI, 13 June 2023 – The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi and the Philippine Consulates in Uganda and Seychelles joined the Filipino communities in East Africa in celebrating the country’s Independence Day.
Consul Maria Rosanna O. Josue and Cultural Officer Sherlyn M. Roxas joined respectively the festivities organized in Dar es Salaam by the Kaibigan-Filipino Association in Tanzania and the Filipino Community of Tanzania on 10 and 11 June 2023, and in Kampala by the Filipino Community in Uganda on 11 June 2023.
During the festivities, the Embassy representatives conveyed the Independence Day message of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. They also commended the Filipino community for organizing the events that highlight the shared values, culture, and contributions of overseas Filipinos.
The gatherings showcased Philippine heritage and culture, including through culinary delights and traditional music and dance. The celebrations also provided an opportunity for Filipinos in these countries to come together, reconnect with their roots, and celebrate the country’s independence even while abroad.
Meanwhile, the Filipino community in Seychelles celebrated Kalayaan 2023 on 11 June, with Philippine Honorary Consul Rosita T. Parcou.
In South Sudan, Ambassador Marie Charlotte G. Tang and Vice Consul Louie Dane C. Merced met with members of the Filipino community in Juba on 12 June, during which special cakes to celebrate the country’s Independence Day were presented.
On its part, the Philippine Embassy held a flag-raising ceremony on 12 June to commemorate the occasion.
Additionally, the Embassy will host a Kalayaan celebration in Nairobi on 18 June 2023, co-organized with the Filipino Community in Kenya. END
