Nairobi, Kenya - The Embassy of the Philippines in Nairobi conducted its first 2019 mobile consular outreach mission to Seychelles in Exiles Club Meeting Room, Francis Rachel Street, Victoria, Mahe, Seychelles on 14 to 15 April 2019.
Overseas Filipinos eagerly lined up at the venue early in the morning to avail of the Embassy’s consular services, with some travelling long distances from the other islands. Majority of service rendered to the Filipinos were passport renewals along with authentication, notarials and civil registration.
The Embassy team gave a briefing on the Philippines’ Accession to the Apostille Convention. The Filipino Community in Seychelles reacted positively to the news of better and streamlined authentication process for documents. The Convention will enter into force on 14 May 2019. Seychelles, Burundi and Malawi are the countries under Nairobi PE’s jurisdiction that have acceded to the Apostille Convention.
Some Seychellois employers also took advantage of the presence of the Embassy personnel to inquire on the Philippines’ regulations on hiring and deployment of Overseas Filipino Workers.
Seychelles, a 115-Island archipelago in the Indian Ocean, is host to over five hundred Overseas Filipinos, who mostly work in the tourism industry or are affiliated with Indian Ocean Tuna Ltd.
