NAIROBI – The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Nairobi conducted its first mobile consular outreach mission to Uganda for 2019 at the office of the Philippine Honorary Consulate General in Kampala on 28 April 2019.
Filipinos based in Uganda travelled as much as 6 hours by land (226 km) to avail themselves of the consular services including passport renewals, notarials and authentication. Some Filipinos also consulted on labor issues.
When asked for their reasons for choosing to work in Uganda, most Filipinos answered that they decided to work abroad in search of a better future and were very much surprised with the comfortable standard of living in Uganda as well as its pleasant climate.
Many of the Filipinos present also took the opportunity to cast their votes in the field voting mission held in tandem with the consular outreach.
They also happily reported that Filipinos have a good reputation in East Africa. The Filipino community in Uganda is spread over the engineering, construction, medicine, accountancy and education sectors, as well as the restaurant and hotel industries, or employed by the United Nations.
Uganda is one of the 12 countries under the jurisdiction of the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Nairobi, Kenya. The Ugandan capital, Kampala, is located 660 km from Nairobi.
