NAIROBI – The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Nairobi conducted its first mobile consular outreach mission to Tanzania for 2019 on 5 May 2019 amid heavy rainfall.

The Tanzania Meteorological Agency forecasted thunderstorms over most areas of the eastern part of the country in the second week of May, especially after Tropical Cyclone Kenneth. However, this did not deter Filipinos based in Tanzania who sought consular services, including passport renewals, notarials and authentication. Some Filipinos also consulted on civil registry issues and one foreign national applied for a tourist visa.

The Filipino community in Tanzania works in the engineering, construction, medicine and accountancy sectors, as well as in managerial positions in the hotel and restaurant industries.

As for their reasons for choosing to work in Tanzania, most Filipinos answered that they did not hesitate to grab the opportunity when it knocked on their door despite it being far from the Philippines. As much as they find their stay pleasant in Tanzania, the interviewed Filipinos expressed their desire to return to the Philippines for retirement.

Filipinos in Tanzania also exercised their right to vote for the Senatorial Elections in the field voting mission held parallel with the consular outreach.
