PH EMBASSY IN NAIROBI PROVIDES CONSULAR SERVICES AND MOBILE VOTING IN SEYCHELLES
Victoria, 17 April 2022 - The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi successfully conducted a consular outreach mission and mobile voting in Seychelles on 17 April 2022.
The Embassy's team composed of Second Secretary and Consul Maria Rosanna O. Josue and Consular Assistant Jose D. Aguilera, Jr., in coordination with PH Honorary Consul in Seychelles Ms. Rosita Parcou, provided passport, notarial, and other consular services to Filipinos in Seychelles.
Mobile voting for the 2022 Presidential elections was also available to qualified registered Filipino overseas voters.
The Embassy team also encouraged the Filipino community to register in its overseas Filipino mapping project and informed them about Republic Act 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act of 2019.
Seychelles, a 115-Island archipelago in the Indian Ocean, is host to around three hundred Overseas Filipinos, who mostly work in the tourism industry or are affiliated with Indian Ocean Tuna Ltd.
Diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Seychelles were established in 1987.
The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi participated in this year’s “International Day of Reflection on the Genocide Against the Tutsi in Rwanda” held at the UN Office in Nairobi on 14 April 2022.
PH EMBASSY IN NAIROBI MEETS WITH FILIPINO NATIONALS, GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS IN SOUTH SUDAN
JUBA, 13 April 2022 – The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi successfully conducted a consular outreach mission in Juba, South Sudan on 10-12 April 2022.
The Embassy's team provided passport, notarial, and other consular services to Filipinos in South Sudan. It also met with the Filipino community in Juba to check on their situation amid the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.
There are over 100 Filipinos in South Sudan, most of them working in United Nations (UN) agencies, non-government and humanitarian organizations, and petroleum companies.
The Embassy team, led by Third Secretary and Vice Consul Louie Dane C. Merced, also paid a courtesy visit to the Asia Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of South Sudan. During the meeting, the South Sudan officials expressed their hope to work more closely with the Philippines in the areas of agriculture, investments, and capacity-building.
South Sudan is the world's youngest independent state, having gained its independence in 2011. Diplomatic relations between the Philippines and South Sudan were established in 2013. END
PH AMBASSADOR TANG PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO KENYAN PRESIDENT UHURU KENYATTA
NAIROBI, 02 April 2022 – Philippine Ambassador to the Republic of Kenya Marie Charlotte G. Tang presented her credentials to Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on 01 April 2022 at the State House in Nairobi.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Tang conveyed the warm greetings and good wishes of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and the Filipino people to President Kenyatta, the government and people of Kenya.
Ambassador Tang expressed her hope to deepen Philippines-Kenya relations and expand cooperation both bilaterally and multilaterally. She emphasized that despite the two countries’ geographic distance, the Philippines and Kenya share many similarities on which to further build relations, the most important of which is that both are developing countries and democratic societies with shared aspirations for peace, progress, and prosperity of their peoples.
President Kenyatta reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthen bilateral ties. He noted the Philippines’ strong migration policy and said that both countries can learn from each other.
During the ceremony, President Kenyatta also received the credentials of eight other ambassadors who recently arrived in Kenya –Israel, South Korea, Japan, Morocco, Malawi, Bangladesh, Argentina and Canada.
The Philippines established diplomatic relations with Kenya in 1967. Both countries mark 55 years of relations this year. There are around 300 Filipinos in Kenya, many of them working in the skilled sector, religious missions, and the United Nations agencies headquartered in Nairobi. END
