PH EMBASSY IN NAIROBI EXTENDS CONSULAR SERVICES, OVERSEAS VOTING REGISTRATION IN UGANDA
The Embassy team extended consular services and facilitated the overseas voting registration for qualified Filipinos in Uganda.
NAIROBI, 18 May 2023 – The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi conducted a consular outreach mission in Kampala on 14 May 2023.
The mission was done in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate in Kampala and the Filipino Community in Uganda.
The two-member Embassy team, composed of Attachés Celine D. Bejar and Fervie Jay V. Brubio, extended passport, civil registry, and other consular services, and facilitated the registration of overseas voters for the 2025 Philippine elections.
During the mission, Filipinos who have not yet done so were also encouraged to register in the Embassy’s overseas Filipino mapping project.
Uganda, a landlocked country in East Africa and located along the shore of Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest freshwater lake, is host to 250 overseas Filipinos, who are mostly professionals and skilled workers. END

ASEAN Committee in Nairobi donates books to University of Nairobi

15 May 2023, Nairobi – The Philippine Embassy joined the ASEAN Committee in Nairobi (ACN) in donating books to the University of Nairobi, the largest university in Kenya.
In his remarks, ACN Chair and Malaysian High Commissioner Ruzaimi Mohamad said the ACN looks forward to increasing engagements between ASEAN and Kenya, particularly through their young people.
University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama welcomed the book donation and expressed hope for more cultural exchanges between Kenya and ASEAN, including on student exchanges and information sharing between libraries.
As timely celebration of National Heritage Month, the Embassy of the Philippines donated some 30 books on Philippine cuisine, arts and heritage as well as on ASEAN. The Embassy also previously donated books to the Kenya National Library Service.
The ASEAN Committee in Nairobi is composed of the Heads of the Kenya-based missions of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand.

DAR ES SALAAM, 08 May 2023 - The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi conducted its first consular outreach mission for 2023 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on 07 May 2023.
The Embassy team, composed of Vice Consul Louie Dane C. Merced and Attachés Marco Antonio Angelo S. Santos and Jose D. Aguilera, provided passport, civil registry, authentication, and other consular services, and facilitated the registration of overseas voters for the 2025 Philippine elections.
The Embassy team, with the support of the Filipino community organizations Filipino Community in Tanzania and Kaibigan – Filipino Association in Tanzania, also took the opportunity to check on the situation of Filipinos working in Tanzania, many of whom are in the services, hospitality, and manufacturing sectors. There is also a growing number of Filipino religious missionaries in the country.
While as part of its Gender and Development (GAD) outreach, the Embassy team disseminated materials on GAD-related developments and policies of the Philippine Government, including Republic Act 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act.
Dar es Salaam, a city of around seven million people and located along the coast of the Indian Ocean, is the former capital of Tanzania and continues to be the country's main commercial hub.
There are around 300 Filipinos in Tanzania. END

The Embassy team facilitated the transfer of voting registration of Filipino nationals who
have recently moved to Tanzania.
PH EMBASSY HOSTS DIPLOMACY STUDENTS OF UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI

NAIROBI, 03 May 2023 – The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi hosted a group of first-year students from the Department of Diplomacy and International Studies (DDIS) of the University of Nairobi (UoN) on 03 May 2023, as part of the Embassy’s outreach to raise the awareness and visibility of the Philippines among the Kenyan public.
In welcoming the students, Philippine Ambassador Marie Charlotte G. Tang noted that the visit is a follow-through to the initial engagements between the Embassy and the DDIS in 2022, and expressed optimism for further collaborations. She also advised the students, many aspiring to become diplomats, that life in the foreign service is not always glamorous, but entails a lot of hard work and learning.
Third Secretary and Vice Consul Louie Dane C. Merced gave a briefing on the Philippines, Philippines-Kenya relations, and ASEAN.
During the open forum, questions centered on the prospects of closer Philippines-Kenya cooperation, especially in the education sector, and the possibility of increasing engagements between ASEAN and African countries. The students also took the opportunity to ask questions about diplomatic practices such as presentation of credentials, and diplomatic protocols and etiquette.
Some of the students shared that their initial familiarity with the Philippines was limited to Filipino teleseryes or television dramas, and that they learned more about the country through the visit to the Embassy and interaction with Filipino diplomats.
Following the briefing, the students partook of pansit bihon, empanada, and turon as part of their introduction to Filipino cuisine and culture. END
Third Secretary and Vice Consul Merced presented an overview of the Philippines, its government, economy, history, culture, and foreign policy to the UoN students.
