PH EMBASSY IN NAIROBI CONDUCTS ITS FIRST CONSULAR MISSION IN THE DR CONGO SINCE THE PANDEMIC

KINSHASA, 30 April 2022 – The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi successfully conducted a consular mission in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) on 28 April 2022, its first outreach to the country since the pandemic started.

The two-member team rendered passport, notarial, and other consular services as part of the Embassy’s continuing efforts to provide services to Filipinos residing in the 12 countries under its jurisdiction.

Apart from answering clients' questions about consular matters and overseas absentee voting, the team also showed the Embassy’s “Women Who Make Change” video interview series, a Gender and Development (GAD) project to promote better understanding of gender-based issues and challenges.

The team also took the opportunity to assess the situation of Filipinos in the DR Congo, particularly in light of the recent attacks by armed groups on civilians and the country's latest reported Ebola outbreak. The Embassy team encouraged the Filipinos in the DR Congo to participate in the Embassy’s ongoing overseas Filipino mapping project.

There are over 140 Filipinos currently working in the DR Congo, the largest country in Sub-Saharan Africa. Most of them are skilled workers, United Nations (UN) agencies employees, and religious missionaries. END

PH EMBASSY IN NAIROBI PROVIDES CONSULAR SERVICES AND MOBILE VOTING IN TANZANIA

Dar es Salaam, 24 April 2022 - The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi successfully concluded a consular outreach mission in Tanzania on 24 April 2022, the fourth of a series of outreach missions it is conducting timed with the 2022 overseas voting for the Philippine national elections.

The Embassy's team composed of Second Secretary and Consul Maria Rosanna O. Josue, and Attaché Marco Antonio Angelo S. Santos, in coordination with the Filipino Community in Tanzania and the Kaibigan–Filipino Association in Tanzania, provided passport, notarial, and other consular services to Filipinos in Tanzania.

Mobile voting for the 2022 Presidential elections was also available to qualified registered Filipino overseas voters.

During the mission the Embassy team also encouraged the Filipino community to register in its overseas Filipino mapping project and showed its three-part video interview series, “Women Who Make Change,” earlier released on the occasion of the 2022 International Women’s Day.

Tanzania, an East African nation along the Indian Ocean, is host to around three hundred Overseas Filipinos, who are mostly professionals or skilled workers.

Diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Tanzania were established in 1961.

KIGALI, 25 April 2022 – The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi, in coordination with Philippine Honorary Consul in Rwanda Rachel Lynn Pineda Zirimwabagabo, successfully conducted a consular outreach mission in Kigali on 21 April 2022.

The two-member Embassy team, composed of Mr. Fervie Jay V. Brubio and Ms. Armaigne Grace C. Aquino, extended passport, notarial, and other consular services to Filipinos in Rwanda.

The Embassy team also encouraged the Filipino community to register in its online overseas Filipino mapping project. The mapping survey will provide the Embassy with valuable inputs to rationalize its programs and services to Filipinos in the 12 African countries under the Embassy’s jurisdiction.

There are an estimated 55 Filipinos currently working and/or residing in Rwanda, a landlocked country situated in east-central Africa. Filipinos employed in Rwanda are mostly professionals and skilled workers. END

KIGALI, 25 April 2022 - Philippine non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Rwanda Marie Charlotte G. Tang presented her credentials to Rwandan President Paul Kagame on 25 April 2022 at the Village Urugwiro - Office of the President in Kigali.

Ambassador Tang conveyed the good wishes of President Rodrigo Duterte to President Kagame and the people of Rwanda. She commended Rwanda’s successful efforts to contain COVID-19 and promote a post-pandemic economic recovery. She shared that the Philippines has recently enacted new landmark policies conducive for business and investments and expressed the hope for increased economic and people-to-people collaboration with Rwanda.

Ambassador Tang also congratulated Rwanda for co-initiating the resolution on creating an internationally legally binding instrument on plastic pollution adopted at fifth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-5) in March 2022 in Nairobi. Ambassador Tang cited the landmark resolution, which the Philippines also co-sponsored, as a necessary step to end plastic pollution.

President Kagame called the Philippines “a friend of Rwanda” and noted the considerable degree of familiarity between the two countries owing to the long years of people-to-people exchanges. He reaffirmed Rwanda’s interest to further strengthen its relations with the Philippines.

At the ceremony, President Kagame also received the credentials of four other envoys from Chad, Namibia, Brazil, and Jamaica.

During her visit to Kigali, Ambassador Tang also held meetings with Permanent Secretary Clementine Mukeka and Director General for Asia and Pacific Affairs Phillip Karenzi of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MINAFFET) of Rwanda. Ambassador Tang and the Rwandan officials discussed potential cooperation in the areas of tourism, culture, skills development, migration, and closer collaboration in the multilateral front.

Ambassador Tang also met with the Filipino community based in Rwanda, a number of them already in the country since the 1990s and had supported the rebuilding of the Rwandan society in the aftermath of the 1994 genocide. Ambassador Tang assured the community that the Philippine Embassy in Nairobi, in close coordination with Philippine Honorary Consul-designate to Rwanda Ms. Rachel Lynn Pineda Zirimwabagabo, stands ready to assist the 55 Filipino nationals in Rwanda.
